Energy Storage
What is peak shaving and how does it cut industrial energy costs?
SANA Energy technical team

In many industrial and commercial facilities, the electricity bill is not driven by energy alone; maximum instantaneous demand carries significant weight. Even a few minutes of high draw per month can raise the whole month's demand charge.
How peak shaving works
An energy storage system charges during off-peak hours and supplies part of the facility's load from the battery at peak moments, so grid draw never crosses the configured ceiling.
Who benefits most
- Facilities with short, predictable peaks such as large motor starts
- Sites with a wide tariff spread between peak and off-peak hours
- Sites with connection limits that cannot raise their demand
Good peak-shaving design starts with real load-profile data; battery capacity and system power must follow measured consumption.
